Domaine de la Touraize

André-Jean Morin’s family has been growing grapes in Arbois since at least 1704. For most of this time, the family produced wine from ~6 ha of land, including the first vineyard named La Touraize, the namesake of the present-day winery. The family estate ebbed and flowed over the centuries and through the 20th century was focused on growing grapes for a local cooperative.

André-Jean grew up in these vineyards, following his dad while he plowed the estate.

As a child he would follow the plow and hunt for pretty stones to collect, many of which turned out to be ammonite fossils. In 2009 he elected to exit the cooperative and start his own winery, and his estate wines are now emblazoned with the same ammonites that shaped his earliest memories of these vineyards.

André-Jean’s wines are carefully and painstakingly made, with the accumulated expertise of generations. Nowhere is this more evident than in his Ploussard, which achieves all of the complex and rewarding notes one that make this grape so prized, without any of the bitter herbaceous flavors that often show in Ploussards. Due to the delicate nature of Ploussard skins, the work must all be done very slowly, entirely by hand. This uncompromising attention to detail is evident in all of the wines, and we are honored to present them to you.
